What does a dead wooden staff have to do with our faith journey today? More than we might expect. In this session, we dig into Numbers 17, where God settles a dispute over authority in the most dramatic way possible. He instructs Moses to collect twelve staffs, one for each tribe of Israel, and place them before the Ark of the Covenant overnight. By morning, Aaron's staff had not merely sprouted, it had budded, blossomed, and produced almonds all at once. No soil. No water. No natural source of life. Just the unmistakable hand of God. This miracle carries layers of meaning that stretch all the way into the New Testament. The almond tree, known in Scripture as a symbol of watchfulness and the faithfulness of God to fulfill His word, becomes a picture of divine selection and unquestionable authority. We explore how Aaron's rod serves as a type of Christ, the one chosen not by popular vote or human consensus, but by the Father Himself. Just as that single staff bore life from death, Jesus rose from the grave as the sole source of life and authority for all of creation. We also wrestle with the very human tendency to compete for recognition, to question who is really in charge, and to grumble when God's choices do not align with our preferences. The session reminds us that what God breathes upon will flourish, even when it looks like a dead stick to everyone around us. If we find ourselves in a season where our calling looks lifeless to others, this passage calls us to stay planted where God has placed us and trust that the budding, blossoming, and fruit are already on the way.
