What does it look like to bring order, obedience, and spiritual preparation into every area of our lives? In this session, we walk through Numbers 31, where the Israelites return from battle against the Midianites, and we discover that victory is never just about what happens on the battlefield. The camp had to be protected. The people had to be purified. The spoils had to be accounted for. Every detail mattered to God, and nothing unclean was permitted to enter the community without first being cleansed. This is a picture of how seriously God takes the integrity of what we carry into our inner circles, our families, and our communities. We also uncover a stunning thread of symbolism running through the water of purification described in Numbers 19 and referenced in Numbers 31. The ashes of the red heifer, mixed with water, were used to cleanse those who had come into contact with death. From the first red heifer offered around 1400 BC to the last one offered in 67 AD, only nine were ever sacrificed, and none since. That is not a coincidence. It points us directly to the blood of Christ, which Hebrews tells us cleanses our conscience from dead works so we can serve the living God. The old purification rite has been fulfilled in something far greater. And for anyone carrying a guilty conscience today, that is the invitation, not to keep rehearsing what has already been forgiven, but to let the cleansing work of Christ do what it was always meant to do.
