Today's journey through Genesis 28, Judges 4, Job 28, and Proverbs 28 reveals a powerful thread about encountering God in unexpected places and recognizing His faithfulness despite our imperfections. We witness Jacob, a deceiver fleeing from family dysfunction, receiving God's covenant promise in a dream—a ladder connecting heaven and earth with angels ascending and descending. What strikes us most is God's declaration: 'Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go...I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.' This isn't a promise reserved for the perfect; it's extended to the broken, the flawed, the running. Jacob awakens declaring 'surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it,' reminding us that God meets us in our weariness, our confusion, our mess. His response? Worship, commitment, and tithing—giving back to God what He's given us. We're challenged to examine our own cycles of spiritual coldness and revival. When life gets easy, do we lighten up on prayer and discipline? The Israelites' pattern of falling away and crying out for help mirrors our own tendencies. True revival isn't something we wait for—it's something we steward by keeping wood on the fire and oil in the lamp. The question isn't whether God will show up; it's whether we'll stay awake to His presence.
