We are invited into a powerful exploration of Matthew 10, where Jesus commissions His twelve disciples and transforms them from learners into apostles—sent ones. This pivotal moment reveals that preparation time is never wasted, but there comes a season when we must step from the seat of learning into the field of action. Jesus doesn't wait until His disciples feel completely ready; He knows their hearts better than they know themselves, and He equips them with authority over unclean spirits and every disease. The teaching challenges us to recognize that we've been sitting at the table, observing the gifts of the Spirit in operation, learning from great examples of faith—but now it's time to rise and fulfill our assignments. We're reminded that Jesus sends us out two by two, as battle buddies, because no one fights alone. The morale is higher, the burden lighter, and the testimony stronger when we have fellow believers beside us. Throughout this commission, Jesus repeatedly says 'fear not'—a phrase echoed over 360 times in Scripture—because He knows fear is the greatest obstacle to obedience. Whether it's sharing the gospel with a coworker during a meeting, returning to pay for forgotten items at a store, or stopping to minister to someone on the street, we're called to be obedient in the moment. The Holy Spirit will give us the words to speak, even when we feel unprepared. We don't need to be experts; we just need to be available, listening, and willing to let God work through us to reach the lost sheep all around us.
