What does it look like to truly wait on God before making a move? In this session, we dig into Numbers 9 and discover that the Israelites had a remarkably simple guide for knowing when to stay and when to go: the cloud by day and the fire by night. When the cloud lifted, they moved. When it rested, they stayed, whether that was for a day, a month, or what the text calls 'a longer time.' That phrase, a longer time, may be the most spiritually challenging idea in the whole chapter, because most of us know what it feels like to be ready to move and yet sense God saying, not yet. We also explore the Passover observance within this chapter and discover something powerful: God still called His people to celebrate, even in the middle of the wilderness. Even when they had been near death. Even when the promised land was nowhere in sight. There is a word here for all of us who are in a season of waiting. God is not asking us to celebrate our circumstances. He is asking us to celebrate what He has already done. And that posture of gratitude, of remembering His faithfulness, is what keeps our hearts anchored when the cloud has not yet moved.
