What does it mean to keep our lamps burning? In Leviticus 24, we encounter a striking image: clear, pressed olive oil, carefully tended lamps, and bread arranged with precise intention before the Lord. These were not arbitrary rituals. They were a picture of how we are called to approach God, with consistency, purity, and deliberate care. The oil had to be clear, and it had to come from pressing. That detail alone carries enormous weight for us today. The very trials and hardships we wish we could avoid are the pressing that produces the oil we need. Our difficulties are not interruptions to our spiritual lives; they are the source of what fuels them. And just as the lamps had to be tended continually, not occasionally, not when convenient, but always, so too must we tend to our relationship with God through daily time in His Word and in His presence. The passage also confronts us with the weight of our words and our conduct, reminding us that how we live and what we speak carries real consequence. Taken together, this session calls us to examine the quality of our oil, the brightness of our lamps, and the care we bring to walking before God each day. The invitation is simple but profound: show up, tend the flame, and trust that the pressing is producing something pure.
