EPISODE 105: The Difference Between Information and Transformation

Oct 5, 2026  •  Ron Tolson, Phillip Delgado

What does it actually mean to study the Bible? Not just to read it, not just to memorize it, but to be genuinely changed by it? That question sits at the heart of this conversation, and it cuts deeper than we might expect. There is a real and dangerous gap between accumulating biblical knowledge and allowing that knowledge to do what it was always meant to do: transform us from the inside out. We live in a world saturated with sermon clips, devotionals, and on-demand spiritual content, and yet many of us can find ourselves more informed than ever while feeling further from God than we have in years. The Pharisees and Sadducees are the sobering example here. They had scripture memorized forwards and backwards, and yet they could not recognize the Messiah standing directly in front of them. John chapter five captures this tension powerfully, where Jesus tells those searching the scriptures that they are looking for life in the text while refusing to come to the very one the text points to. The warning is as alive today as it was then. Knowledge without a surrendered heart is just religion wearing a costume. The invitation in this conversation is to ask ourselves honestly: when we open the Word, are we seeking information or are we seeking him?
